Ukulhas Sands App

The challenge

Staying at an idyllic guesthouse in the Maldives should be all about relaxation. In practice, however, the Ukulhas Sands guesthouse ran into operational challenges that could disrupt the guest experience. Logistics such as manually taking breakfast orders every day (including specific dietary preferences and locations like the garden or the rooftop terrace) and communicating the crucial speedboat transfer times to and from the airport took a lot of time. Guests often had to go to the reception in person or communicate through separate chat channels. The challenge was to create a streamlined mobile solution that lowers the barrier for guests, prevents ordering mistakes, and drastically increases operational efficiency for the guesthouse staff.

Our approach

We developed an intuitive, visually appealing iOS application that fully matches the guesthouse's fresh, tropical house style. Usability was central to the design, since guests need to be able to use the app instantly and without friction during their holiday.

• Development of a smart ordering system that lets guests put together their breakfast per room and per person before 8pm (choosing from local dishes such as Mas Huni, egg preparations and drinks) and specify the desired location and time.
• Integration of a clear timetable for the speedboats between the airport and Ukulhas Island, including reminders for timely pre-bookings.
• A central 'Contact' page with all essential guesthouse information, check-in/out times, and quick links to social media and direct channels for specific requests.

The result

With the introduction of the Ukulhas Sands app, the guest journey has been fully digitised and personalised.
